A Magical Night in New York City – November 11, 2025

Our long-awaited trip to see New York City by night finally happened on November 11, 2025. My wife Subhadra, my son Akhil, and I set out from our house in Orange, Connecticut in the afternoon, excited yet unaware of the memorable experience that awaited us.

The day was extremely cold and windy, one of those early-winter evenings where every gust of wind felt sharper than the last. As we drove along the highway, tiny snowflakes—light flurries—began to drift across the windshield. Though it was late fall, many trees still held onto their last splashes of red, yellow, and orange leaves, making the scenery look like a painting touched with the final colors of the season.

Crossing the George Washington Bridge was another highlight. The mighty steel structure gleamed under the evening sky, welcoming us into New York City.

Battery Park

After reaching Manhattan, we parked our car in a garage near Liberty Park and stepped out into the freezing wind. Our enthusiasm, however, kept us warm enough to begin exploring.

About Battery Park

Battery Park at night is a peaceful retreat at the very tip of Manhattan. The harbor breeze brushes across the park, carrying the scent of the sea. Soft lights illuminate the walkways, and the silhouettes of tall trees gently sway overhead. Visitors stroll slowly, enjoying the quiet contrast to the city’s usual hustle.

From the waterfront, the Statue of Liberty stands proudly in the distance, glowing under the night sky. The reflection of city lights sparkles on the surface of the water, creating a soothing and magical scene. It felt like standing between the silence of the sea and the heartbeat of the city.

Wall Street

Walking towards Wall Street, the atmosphere changed into one of historic charm and financial power. The stone buildings, lit by street lamps, cast long shadows on the ground. The New York Stock Exchange stood elegant and imposing with its grand pillars and lights highlighting its architectural beauty.

The iconic Charging Bull shone under bright lamps, attracting visitors eager to take photos. Even at night, Wall Street felt alive with an energy that seemed to linger from the bustling daytime trading hours.

Walk to Trinity Church

We continued on foot toward Trinity Church. On the way, we came across a beautifully illuminated building that resembled an elegant European structure. Beside it was a small park, its trees decorated with delicate lights that shimmered softly in the cold evening breeze.

We took several photographs there—some of the most beautiful from the entire trip.

At Trinity Church, the Gothic architecture stood tall and majestic. Its stained-glass windows glowed faintly, and the churchyard had a serene, historic charm. We captured more photos before moving ahead.

The World Trade Center – A Stunning Surprise

Near the World Trade Center, we came across a newly constructed architectural marvel. From the outside, it looked like a lotus with open petals, while the interior evoked the image of a bird with wings spread wide. Its soft white lighting and sculpted shape made it appear almost like a grand art installation.

We explored three to four floors of the structure, admiring its sweeping interiors and the crowds enjoying the space. It was truly breathtaking.

9/11 Memorial – A Moment of Reflection

We then visited the WTC Memorial, built in remembrance of the lives lost during the tragic 9/11 attacks. The vast square pools, with water flowing endlessly into the central void, created a powerful and emotional atmosphere. The engraved names of the victims reminded us of the immense sacrifice and loss.

We paused there for a moment of silence, offering our homage.

Afterward, we walked to a nearby restaurant for some warm pizza and hot coffee—a comforting break after the long walk in the cold.

Liberty Park

From the restaurant, we made our way to Liberty Park, a beautiful elevated park overlooking the World Trade Center complex. Despite the cold, the park felt calm and inviting. Its clean pathways, modern railings, and landscaped greenery offered a peaceful contrast to the bustling streets below.

From the edge of the park, we could see the 9/11 Memorial from above—its pools glowing in soft light. The newly built structures in the area gleamed like modern sculptures. The gentle illumination along the park’s walkways made the place feel serene and reflective.

We captured several photos here as well, enjoying the quiet beauty of the night.

Journey Back to Connecticut

After our time at Liberty Park, we walked back to the parking garage, picked up our car, and started our return journey. As we drove out of Manhattan, the night skyline shimmered brilliantly—each tower sparkling like a jewel against the black sky. We paused briefly to take photos of the breathtaking skyline.

It was a mesmerizing end to an unforgettable evening. Even today, the memories of that cold, windy November night—filled with lights, architecture, and family moments—remain warm in our hearts.

Northern lights

We saw the northern lights while we returned home. Some of the pictures taken on the occasion he’s given below:
